Number of asylum applications in EU+ countries could reach 1 million by end of 2023, according to European Union Agency for Asylum

EU+ countries (the EU27 and Schengen associated states) had received 519,000 asylum applications by the end of June, according to the latest figures published on 5 September by the European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA).

“Based on current trends, applications could exceed 1 million by the end of 2023”, says the Agency. In the first half of 2023, asylum applications were 28% higher than in the first half of 2022.
