European Ombudsman opens inquiry into Frontex’s actions during migrant boat sinking off Greek coast in June

On Wednesday 26 July, the European Ombudsman, Emily O’Reilly, who investigates maladministration within the EU institutions and bodies, opened an own-initiative inquiry to clarify the role of the Frontex agency in search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean, following the drowning of hundreds of people off the Greek coast on 14 June, according to a press release.
