European trade unions welcome agreement reached on asbestos exposure at work but criticise length of transition period

On Tuesday 27 June, European trade unions and workers from European construction and woodworking companies welcomed the agreement reached in trilogue (see EUROPE B13210A25) on the same day on the revision of the directive on exposure to asbestos at work. However, they expressed some disappointment at the length of the transition period chosen to achieve a more ambitious exposure value and the use of electron microscopy, which is more effective at detecting fibres.
