Global demand for coal is set to fall after peaking in 2023, according to International Energy Agency

In a new report published on 15 December, the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that, after peaking this year, global coal demand will fall by 2.3% by 2026, compared with 2023.

The European Union and the United States are already set to record reductions of around 20% each in 2023.

However, China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines (accounting for over 70% of global coal demand) are expected to offset these declines, resulting in slight global growth of 1.4% in coal...
