Trinidad and Tobago receives a red card for its lax approach to combating illegal fishing

On Monday 25 September, the European Commission decided to send Trinidad and Tobago a red card for failing to take the necessary measures to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

The decision is based on the EU regulation which provides a framework for cooperation with countries to combat IUU fishing (see EUROPE B13125A30).

The Commission regrets the lack of progress since 2016 - and the sending of a yellow card - on the part of Trinidad and Tobago. The country has not...
