European Commission to examine in depth Swedish and Danish aid to SAS airline, annulled by EU General Court

On Tuesday 4 July, the European Commission announced that it had opened an in-depth investigation to examine the compliance of a Danish and Swedish recapitalisation measure worth around €1 billion (SEK 11 billion) in favour of SAS AB, an airline operating in Denmark, Sweden and Norway. SAS was threatened with failure and insolvency due to restrictions linked to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 (see EUROPE B13179A18).
