European Commission proposing 1.4% increase in expenditure in 2024 budget compared with 2023

On Wednesday 7 June, the European Commission presented its budget proposal for 2024, amounting to €189.3 billion in commitment appropriations, an increase of 1.4% on the commitment appropriations for 2023 (see EUROPE B12966A20).

This budget will be supplemented by €113 billion in grants linked to NextGenerationEU, the EU’s post-pandemic recovery instrument, financed by borrowing on the capital markets.
