On Monday 11 December, the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture adopted (34 votes in favour, 11 against and 1 abstention) its opinion on the proposal to regulate the use of new genomic techniques (NGTs), which includes a reduction in the traceability measures applied to these plants (see EUROPE B13308A14).
MEPs are in favour of a ban on all patents filed for NGT plants, whether they are similar to conventional plants (category 1) or not (category 2).
