At the annual meeting of the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM) on Friday 10 November, the Mediterranean countries agreed to ban all bottom fishing in 2024 in a 400 km² area around the unique deep-sea coral of the Cabliers Bank.
This measure will prevent any deterioration of this fragile area of biodiversity located in the Alboran Sea, between Spain and Morocco, according to the NGO Oceana, which welcomes this decision.
