European Commission proposes to modernise Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive to ensure cleaner water by 2030 and save energy

On Wednesday 26 October the European Commission presented two complementary proposals to ensure that all surface and groundwater is cleaner and healthier by 2030, as a step towards the EU’s ‘zero pollution’ ambition by 2050. 

The revision of the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive 91/271/EEC is the first of these water proposals to be presented as part of the ‘Zero Pollution’ legislative package for air and water, in line with the requirements of the European Green Deal (see...
