Proceedings against France and Ireland over maritime safety

Brussels, 27/06/2002 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday, the Commission decided to take action against France and Ireland at the Court of Justice for incorrect application of the legislation on port State inspection of vessels. The legislation in question aims to reduce the number of sub-standard craft navigating in Community waters, and imposes inspection on at least 25% of the vessels that enter the State ports in question each year.
