EP calls for IGC to result in ambitious reform and to make qualified majority the rule - Ceiling for number of Commissioners is abolished - Ceiling for MEPs maintained

Strasbourg, 13/04/2000 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday, the European Parliament adopted, by 238 in favour, 147 against and 73 abstentions, the Dimitrakopoulos/Leinen resolution giving the EP's position for the Intergovernmental Conference on EU reform. We shall be reproducing this text in full. It was rejected not only by those who found it too "integrationist" but also by those who said it was not "integrationist" enough. Others reacted according to their national sensitivities.
