01/09/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 1 September, the European Commission opened an interim review of the anti-dumping measures on imports of silicon originating in China. The request was lodged on 8 July by Euroalliages on behalf of the European silicon industry. Anti-dumping duties have been in force since 2022 on imports of Chinese, South Korean and Taiwanese silicon. The applicant cites major changes in the Chinese industry and the build-up of “massive” production overcapacity since the initial investigation in 1990, accompanied by a fall in export prices. It believes that the current measures are no longer sufficient to offset dumping and the injury caused by Beijing to the European industry. On that basis, the Commission considered that the applicant had provided sufficient evidence to justify opening a review of the anti-dumping measures.
