Experts from the EU Member States responsible for development cooperation and international partnerships will resume their work on Monday 7 September, with a discussion devoted to the future of development cooperation.
They will hold discussions with the ‘Future of Development Cooperation Coalition’, (FDCC) and the ‘Center for Global Development’ (CGD) as part of reflections on changes to the development financing model, beyond official development assistance, and on mobilising domestic resources and private capital.
Integrated Approach to Fragility. The experts will also examine the EU approach to situations of fragility, on the basis of a Commission staff working document on an Integrated Approach to Fragility from the European Commission departments, complementing the Commission’s new communication on its humanitarian action, presented last May (see EUROPE 13875/1).
Representatives of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and the World Bank will take part in the discussion, to which experts from the Council of the EU’s COHAFA Working Party are also invited. The discussions are expected to focus on the link between humanitarian action, development cooperation and peace in fragile contexts.
Informal ‘Development’ Council. Lastly, the experts will prepare two October deadlines. The Irish Presidency of the EU Council and the European External Action Service will take stock, on Monday morning, of the informal meeting of European development ministers, scheduled for Thursday 8 and Friday 9 October in Dublin.
It should also be noted that an informal meeting of experts is scheduled in Ireland in mid-September.
International meetings. The experts will also prepare the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group, organised in mid-October in Bangkok, Thailand.
