The European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson had suggested this during the strategy review on 9 March (see EUROPE B13138A8): the Commission proposed to prolong the emergency legislation on coordinated gas demand reduction on Monday 20 March. The measure, which came into force in August 2022 in response to the energy crisis, aimed to reduce gas demand across the EU by 15% and expired on 31 March 2023. It will now be extended by one year.
