In-depth investigation by European Commission into French support measures for Fret SNCF

On Wednesday 18 January, the European Commission opened an in-depth investigation to determine whether certain French support measures for Fret SNCF comply with EU State aid rules.

The beneficiary of these measures is Fret SNCF SAS, a wholly owned subsidiary of the French rail operator SNCF SA (SNCF). Fret SNCF has been constantly loss-making, except in 2021.
