Council of Europe adopts new strategy to obtain Russian execution of European Court of Human Rights judgments

On Monday 12 December, Marija Pejčinović Burić, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, announced that she had written to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on 9 December to “urge Russia to implement outstanding judgments from the European Court of Human Rights”.

Excluded from the Council of Europe on 16 March 2022, Russia is still obliged to comply with the Court’s judgments relating to its “actions and omissions” carried out up to 16 September 2022 (6 months...
