Record solar-power production has helped EU avoid spending €29 billion on fossil gas imports

Brussels, 08/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – A report published by the think tank Ember on Thursday, 8 September, indicates that electricity production from solar energy in the European Union from May to August 2022 reached a record 12% (99.4 TWh), compared to 9% (77.7 TWh) during the same period last year—which made it possible to avoid importing 20 billion cubic metres (bcm) of fossil gas for the potential sum of €29 billion.
