Green light from Council for EU accession to Convention on recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments in civil or commercial matters

13/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 12 July, the Council of the European Union adopted a decision approving the accession of the EU to the Convention on the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments in civil and commercial matters. This text, concluded on 2 July 2019, allows the enforcement of judgments in favour of EU companies or citizens by an EU General Court in non-EU countries and territories, and vice versa in case the foreign judgments comply with EU law.
