The annual inflation rate in the euro area was 8.1% in May, up from 7.4% in April, according to figures released by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) on Friday 17 June.
In the European Union, it stood at 8.8% in May 2022, up from 8.1% in the previous month. A year earlier, it was 2.0% in the eurozone and 2.3% in the EU.
