MEPs call for carcasses to be transported rather than live animals

The European Parliament’s Committee of Inquiry into the protection of animals during transport called on Thursday 2 December for an overhaul of the rules on animal transport (see EUROPE B12844A17). 

The alternative compromise put forward by the Greens/EFA Group in favour of a maximum of 8 hours transport time was rejected by one vote (15 votes in favour, 15 votes against, 1 abstention). The outcome of the plenary vote in January 2022 could be different.
