Europe could do without nearly 48.8 GW of excess fossil fuel capacity, according to Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air

21/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – In a report published on Tuesday 21 September, the independent research organisation Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air estimated that around 48.8 Gigawatts (GW) of electricity generation capacity from fossil fuel plants in nine European countries (Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Spain and Turkey) can be considered as excess capacity that Europe could eliminate without risk to security of electricity supply.
