New EU rules on ecodesign of electric motors come into force

01/07/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Union regulation (2019/1781) on the ecodesign of electric motors and variable speed drives entered into force on Thursday 1 July. Revising the previous regulation from 2009, these new rules aim in particular to strengthen the energy efficiency requirements for AC induction motors (such as those found in washing machines, air conditioners or heat pumps) with a power output between 0.12 kW and 1000 kW.
