On Monday 31 May, the European Commission published its guidelines for EU Member States on the harmonised implementation of the Directive on Single-Use Plastics (EU 2019/904, the so-called ‘SUP Directive’), under this Directive, the ten most common plastic products found on beaches - such as disposable cutlery and plates, straws, balloons, cotton bud sticks - will be banned from the market from 3 July (see EUROPE B12728A12, B12634A17).
