European Parliament looks at improving conditions for execution of European Arrest Warrant

Refusals to execute a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) must remain the exception and be allowed “restrictively and duly justified”. This is the message conveyed by MEP Javier Zarzalejos (EPP, Spain) on ways of improving this tool created in 2002.

In this own-initiative report, he therefore considers that a refusal to execute on the grounds of, for example, concerns relating to the Rule of law should be decided carefully and on a case-by-case basis.
