Secretary-General asks rotating Presidencies to take into account impact of use of sponsorship on reputation of institution

The Secretariat-General of the Council of the EU, in a draft ‘Guidance for Presidency best practice on the use of sponsorship’ dated 29 June, calls on the Presidencies of the Council of the EU to pay attention to the consequences that such sponsorship can have on the reputation of the EU Council.

The European Ombudsman, Emily O’Reilly, opened an inquiry on 19 July 2019 into the commercial sponsorship of Presidencies (see EUROPE B12301A3).
