European Union Finance Ministers are expected to vote on Friday morning, August 2, to propose a single European candidate to serve as managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), succeeding Christine Lagarde. 

This is what emerged from the discussions held on Thursday 1 August, between major monetary policy makers, which did not lead to an agreement on a name among the five personalities in the race (see EUROPE B12306A7).
