While a dozen single-use plastic products are to be banned in the EU from 2021, substitutes such as straws and coffee cups made of cardboard or coloured paper and food packaging in these coloured materials may contain and release chemicals originating from the inks used for printing, the European Consumers’ Organisation (BEUC) warned on Thursday 25 July.
