Commission launches new stage in infringement proceedings concerning new disciplinary measures for Polish judges

On Wednesday 17 July, the Commission sent a reasoned opinion to Poland concerning the new disciplinary measures for Polish judges, for which it had already sent a letter of formal notice to Poland on 3 April (see EUROPE B12228A6).

The Commission launched this infringement procedure on the grounds that the new disciplinary measures undermine the judicial independence of Polish judges and do not provide the necessary guarantees to protect judges from political control, it explained in a...
