Counterfeiting causes EU to lose more than €60 billion each year, according to EPO and EUIPO

06/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – More than €60 billion is lost each year in the EU due to counterfeiting in 11 key economic sectors, according to a joint study by the European Patent Office (EPO) and the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), published on Thursday 6 June. Some 6.8% of EU imports, or €121 billion per year, are counterfeit. The analysis also shows that total losses amount to 7.4% of total sales in the cosmetics, clothing, toys, jewellery, music, wine and spirits...
