Launch of selection process for next European Data Protection Supervisor

On Thursday 11 April, the European Commission launched the selection process for the next European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), with Giovanni Buttarelli's mandate due to expire on 4 December 2019 (see EUROPE B11212A16). 

The EDPS, who is responsible for ensuring that the rights to privacy and the protection of personal data are respected by the institutions and bodies of the European Union, will be appointed for a five-year term, renewable once and effective on 5 December 2019.
