Commission will have to decide whether to trigger safeguard clause on rice

The European Commission will have to adopt the decision on the triggering of the "safeguard clause" re-establishing customs duties on Indica rice from Cambodia and Burma (see EUROPE 12140).

Experts from Member States of the European Union, meeting on 4 December in the Generalised Preferences Committee, failed to reach a majority for, or against, the Commission's proposal.
