Civil Liberties Committee has mandate to negotiate new security standards for identity cards in EU

The European Parliament Civil Liberties Committee (LIBE) adopted its position on Tuesday 4 December on tightening security standards for identity cards and residence permits issued in the EU, in accordance with the new rules proposed by the Commission in April 2017(see EUROPE 12003) to prevent fraud and counterfeiting.
