Public monopoly operating Hungarian mobile payment system is contrary to EU law, says Court

The exclusive operation of a national mobile payment system by a Hungarian public company is contrary to the Directive (2006/123) on services in the internal market, the European Court of Justice ruled on Wednesday 7 November (Case C-171/17). 

In Hungary, the wholly-owned public company Nemzeti Mobilfizetési has been operating a national mobile payment system since July 2014, the use of which is mandatory for the payment of public parking fees, road tolls, passenger transport or fees...
