Germany shifting towards an exit from coal by 2038

17/09/2018 (Agence Europe)According to the Spiegel newspaper on 15 September, the last remaining coal fired plants will close in Germany between 2035 and 2038. Plants with a GW capacity of between 5-7 are expected to be withdrawn from the network by 2020 and will possibly be placed in reserve. The timetable will be examined by 2027 at the latest in view of any possible changes. Germany is looking at measures to support the coal regions affected. (LC)
