There is still a bright future ahead for four highly toxic, active substances used in the composition of pesticides – malathion, diquat, thiram and pymetrozine – that the European Commission has proposed to prohibit with a view to withdrawing the authorisations for phyto-pharmaceutical products containing such substances. That is, unless the Commission, on its own, takes a decision to ban them.
