Although the new rules on personal data came into force on 25 May, the rules on the confidentiality of electronic communications are still being examined. The Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU has drawn up a progress report to examine the state of discussions and will hold a policy debate at the Telecoms Council of 8 June (see EUROPE 12002).
